Lent

Today is Ash Wednesday – the beginning of Lent.  My Lent discipline for this year is to read the Bible in 40 days.  I feel slightly daunted, it is quite a challenge!  I guess I’m not going to be reading much of anything else this Lent!  I’m going to have to try to get up earlier in order to do this.  I’m not really a mornings person so that will be an additional discipline/challenge!

Come Easter, I’ll let you know how I got on.

Oh wow that is some challenge…..

I hope you remember to enjoy it.

    Good luck with it.

  2. That is quite the challenge! Are you following a schedule as in reading so many chapters/books a day? I read 3 chapters a day and 5 on Sunday…that gets me through the Bible in a year…give or take. It depends on if I get involved in a passage and cross references…then it could be longer. Enjoy your study and I pray that God Bless you in your time alone with Him! I think this is a wonderful way to spend Lent.

When we moved here from Florida to Kentucky…we went from being Lutherans (Missouri Synod – Traditional) attending a Southern Baptist! Quite a transition! They do not focus on Lent or Advent – I do miss that.

I have really enjoyed reading back through your blog here!

    Love and God’s Blessings,
    Cat

  3. The WHOLE Bible in 40 days? WOW!
We do not focus on lent in our church but the Catholics in our area do. Most of the restaurants carry seafood products on Friday because they do not eat meat on Friday.
Of course Mardi Gras day is the day before Lent starts here. That was this past Tuesday. It is a huge party time(sin time) and then they all begin Lent at midnight.
It is a pretty big tradition that a midnight the streets of the French Quarter are cleared by horses so that people will go home and start the repenting process.

  4. Do you have a reading plan, or are you going to work from Genesis to Revelation?
